RULES.

All rules are subject to alteration/change at the discretion of the mods. In the event we do feel a significant change is in order, we will attempt to make a post to the community alerting all members of that fact. It is your responsibility, however, to know what the rules are and to follow them. Ignorance is not an excuse.

01. We ask that all players be at least 16 years of age or older due to the potentially darker themes that may arise in this game. While we may allow possible exceptions to this rule, this is purely up to the discretion of the mods. If we find out you lied about your age (and we will find out, it's our job), you will be banned immediately. No exceptions.

02. In order to keep the game active, we ask that all players update with each of their characters at least once every two weeks, if not more, in [info]parabolical. This means you cannot suddenly wait until the last minute and post one-liners in [info]paragraffiti in order to meet the posting requirement. If, for some reason, you cannot find a scene in [info]parabolical to post in, or come up with an idea for your own, let us know and we'll try to help as best we can. Activity checks occur mostly unannounced.

03. Regarding character limits. There is a character cap of 10 characters per player. You may apply for up to two players at once.

04. Gods, deities, and god-like beings require mod approval prior to application. These characters are exceptionally powerful, and must be approved. It is strongly encouraged that these characters have a limited time frame in the game, as they can be very difficult to control for a long time. Approval is at the discretion of the mods.

All major villain applications must be accompanied with a note as to the intended time frame for the character, be it a few weeks to a few months.

05. We only allow each player to have 4 CHARACTERS PER FANDOM. We do evoke the right to make case by case exceptions for plot purposes.

06. Only characters in movies and shows that have been out for one month or longer will be eligible for play or hold. This also applies to information revealed in canon; please try to wait one month before introducing new information from canon.

07. We do not allow Original Characters at [info]parabolical.

08. About holds. Yes, we do allow them. However, we only allow a character to be placed on hold for ONE WEEK. After the week is up the character will go back up for grabs. Players may make up to two holds at once. However, if for some reason you find yourself truly unable to put together an application during that one week, if you contact us we will try to work with you. It is NOT required for you to place a character on hold before applying for them.

09. Anyone who drops a character must wait ONE MONTH before re-applying for that same character. In addition, should any drop be made by a player, that player must wait ONE WEEK in order to hold and/or apply for another character provided that character isn't the one they've just dropped. The exception to this rule is mod approved character deaths.

10. No incest. There is only one exception to this rule. If the characters are involved in an incestous, romantic relationship in canon, then yes. It is allowed. However, it must be supported by canon fact, not conjecture. (Think VC Andrews' Flowers in the Attic for a prime example.) Otherwise, this is a big no-no and could result in expulsion from the game.

We do allow slash. However, only if your character is homosexual (or bisexual/bicurious) in canon.

11. Stay true to the nature of your character. Do not make them so out of their nature that they become someone else entirely. While this is a multi-verse RPG and you are open to crossover romances/friends/etc., try not do anything that would contradict who your character is and their morals. If we think you are, we'll let you know. If it continues to happen, you run the risk of being asked to give up that character. We are all here to have fun and seeing someone canon-rape a character is the exact opposite of that definition.

12 (a). If you pull a character from a specific point in canon from their fandom, they must be the same character as they were from that point in their fandom. This means they must be the same age, height, gender, species, etc. as they were in their own reality. If you want your character older, they must come from some point beyond that part of their canon. If you want them younger, they must come from some point before that part of their canon. And while we realize some books-turned-movies might age a character for plot purposes and whatnot, in order to play the age of the character in the movie, you must use the movie as their basis of canon, not the book from which they originated.

For example: Dawn Summers is sixteen when BtVS goes off the air. If she arrives in Los Angeles following the series finale of BtVS instead of going on to Europe with her sister and the others, she must be sixteen. She cannot suddenly become eighteen, or twenty-one, or twelve. If you want to play her as fourteen, she has to come from the appropriate season on BtVS when she was fourteen. If you want her eighteen, she must come from two years following the finale of the show.

If you have any questions regarding this rule, please do not hesitate to ask and we'll do our best to explain it further.

12 (b). If you wish to temporarily age or de-age your character for a small, limited-time plot, that's fine. However, anything lasting longer than a few days must be cleared by mods. Any change that is permanent, or semi-permanent (lasting more than one month), including moving the character's place in canon (a change in seasons, books, comic book arcs, etc), will require dropping the character and resubmitting an application for the character after the one-month rule, with a new history to support the change in age or place in canon.

Note: If you choose to drop the character and reapply at a new age/canon point, the character will not be held for you during the one-month interval and will be open for others to pick up that character.

13. Absolutely no god-modding.

NOTE: God-modding includes, by our definition, opting to 'reset' your character's time at [info]parabolical and wanting all other characters to forget about their time there as well.

Now, should you wish to simply have your character forget they were ever in the game, that is fine. T However, unless it is a game-wide amnesia plot, other characters will remember any and all interactions with the previous version of your character, unless their players opt otherwise.

14. No drama. OOC /=/ IC.

15. Please avoid excessive one lined posts when replying to logs and narratives in [info]parabolical. We also ask that you use a cut-tag with every post made to [info]parabolical, in order to keep the friends' lists somewhat orderly. If you do not know how to make a cut-tag, simply ask and we'll do our best to explain.

16. No internet/l33t-speak when making posts in character. Such can ONLY be used in [info]paracomms. No 'ALL CAPS' either, unless the character is yelling, and even then we ask you do so sparingly.

17. Although we realize that, with writing, tense-changes can and will happen and words will be spelled incorrectly and/or forgotten altogether in posts, we STRONGLY suggest you proof read each and every post you make before actually submitting it.

If we feel that your writing has declined significantly since your application because you fail to do so, we will speak with you about it and offer a warning. If it continues to happen, you will most likely be removed from the game. We don't expect anyone to be perfect, but we do expect them to take pride in their writing and at least make sure each reply is legible.

18. Each character you play must have their own InsaneJournal account. While we do not require journals only be played at our game, we do ask you use a friends filter if you play them elsewhere to avoid confusion.

Please note, however, that each character journal must have some basic information in the userinfo section. This includes (but is not limited to):

Character Name
Character Fandom
Character Background (or link to background information)
Disclaimer
This character (may/may not) be canon punctured.

19. Okay. Pregnancies/miscarriages/abortions/all that other fun couple-y type stuff. Yes, it does happen. It can happen. However, we do ask that you keep it realistic. If your characters are having unprotected sex they run a significantly higher risk of pregnancy than those who are practicing safe sex.

If they do become pregnant, they MUST continue the pregnancy for the full nine months (Please note this is a change from the previous rule). The only exception to this is if you wish to play out a premature birth scenario, which must be cleared with the mod first. Pregnancies will still be required to last a minimum of seven months and proof of research into the effects of a premature birth will be required.

If we feel you are using miscarriages or abortions as a form of birth control, you will be warned once to stop. After that, it is a bannable offense.

And please, for the love of all that is holy and some things that aren't, keep it realistic. A woman who miscarries isn't going to be scuba-diving the next day. Nor is a woman who gives birth unless she has exceptionally fast healing powers. Research is your friend. Do some before partaking in such a serious, life-changing endeavor.

Finally, please note that children will have to be realistically handled. NPC children characters are allowed, however, if they are being neglected the mod will give you a warning and IC consequences will follow.

20. No cliques. Seriously. None. While it is understandable that certain characters will want to interact more with some than others, if we feel that players are grouping together and ignoring all other players, we will say something. Nobody wants to feel left out. The point of the game is for interaction amongst all different walks of life in a fandom setting. The same goes for the OOC setting as well. No cliques. And once again, for good measure, NO CLIQUES.

21. Above all else, have fun. Yes, there are a good number of rules, but they are all mostly common sense. Just keep in mind that this is a game and the ultimate goal for everyone (mods included) is to have fun!!!
